Brief Description of Works:

The Works comprise of extension of trunk sewers of sizes ranging from 1200mm x 1000mm box culvert to 300mm diameter precast concrete pipes totaling to approximately 27 Km to serve unsewered areas of Ruai, Gatharaini South & North, Clay\works and Ruaraka areas, all are within the City of Nairobi. This invitation for prequalification follows the General Procurement Notice for this Project that appeared in Development Business issue no. 715 of 30th November 2007 and in DG Market (online) on 09th November 2007.

The Government of Kenya (GOK) has received a credit from the International Development Association (IDA) in various currencies towards the cost of Water and Sanitation Service Improvement Project (WaSSIP). It is intended that part of the proceeds of this credit will be applied to eligible payments under the contract for the Gatharaini Trunk Sewers which include Ruai, Ruaraka, Clayworks, Gatharaini North and South trunk sewers, in the City of Nairobi, Contract No: AWSB/WaSSIP/Comp.1/W-6/2008

The Athi Water Services Board, a state corporation under the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, intends to prequalify contractors and/or firms for the construction, testing and commissioning of trunk sewers of various sizes ranging from 1200mm x 1000mm box culvert to 300mm diameter precast concrete pipes totaling to approximately 27 Km to serve Ruai, Gatharaini North & South, Clay Works and Ruaraka all within the City of Nairobi. It is expected that invitations for bid will be made in December 2008.

Prequalification will be conducted through prequalification procedures specified in the World Bank’s Guidelines: Procurement under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits, published by the Bank in May 2004 and revised in October 2006, and is open to all bidders from eligible source countries, as defined in the guidelines.
Interested eligible applicants may obtain further information from and inspect the prequalification document at the Athi Water Services Board offices (address below) from 0900 Hours to 1700 Hours local time from Monday to Friday, except during lunch hour (1300 to 1400 Hours), during weekends and public holidays.

A complete set of the prequalification document in English Language may be purchased by interested applicants (a) on the submission of a written application to the address below and upon payment of a non refundable fee of KShs 5,000 (or equivalent amount in freely convertible currency). The method of payment will be by banker’s cheque or receipted cash payment. The document will be picked upon payment.

Applications for prequalification should be submitted in sealed envelopes, delivered to the address below by Friday 7th November, 2008 at 10.00am and be clearly marked “Application to Prequalify for Construction of Gatharaini Trunk Sewers Contract No. AWSB/WaSSIP/Comp.1/W-6/2008
