SECTION II: OBJECT OF THE CONTRACT
II.1) DESCRIPTION
II.1.1) Title attributed to the contract by the contracting authority:
Repair of Tudor House Museum - Phase Two.
II.1.2) Type of contract and location of works, place of delivery or of
performance: Works.
Execution.
Main site or location of works: UK - Southampton.
NUTS code: UKJ32.
II.1.3) The notice involves: A public contract.
II.1.5) Short description of the contract or purchase(s): Southampton
City Council invites applications from firms/organisations with experience
in the sensitive repair and restoration of historic timber framed
buildings to provide new museum and visitor facilities.
The Phase One works comprised of structural works, repairs to the timber
frame, windows, external walls and the roof structure and coverings and
has recently been completed.
The Phase Two works will comprise of repairs to historic internal doors,
walls, ceiling and floors; new floor finishes; decoration throughout; new
electrical and water installations; the installation of an alarm system; a
new passenger lift installation and heating services to create a museum in
the current empty building.
The project will also include a new extension to house a café in the rear
Court yard and the creation of new visitors w.c. facilities.
A traditional procurement route will be adopted with a firm Bill of
Quantites using the JCT 2005 With Quantites Form of Contract.
The project is partly funded by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The project has passed the first application stage successfully and will
be finally assessed for a grant in March 2009. Awarding of the phase 2
construction contract is subject to a successful assessment of the final
submission.
It is our intention to issue the successful applicant with tender
documents in January 2009 with a tender period of six weeks. Work is due
to start on site in July 2009.
Applicants should be aware that the tender period will be prior to the
final assessment of the project by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The Contracting Authority does not guarantee the volume of works required
resulting from this tender or that it will accept any tender on completion
of the tender exercise.

The Contracting Authority undertakes to use reasonable endeavours to hold
confidential any information provided in the proposal submitted, subject
to the Contracting Authority's obligations under law, including the

the information submitted in the proposal should not be disclosed because
of its sensitivity then this should be stated with the reason for
considering it sensitive. The Contracting Authority will then consider the
sensitivity statement before replying to any request received under the
Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Tender documents or notice of non-acceptance, as appropriate, will be sent
to all applicants.
When executing the contract within the United Kingdom, the successful
supplier will be required to comply with the recommendations of the Code
of Practice for Employment, published by the Equalities and Human Rights
Commission. The suppliers will also be required to comply with the
requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995. Further
information on the Contracting Authority's requirements on the
aforementioned will be included in the invitation to tender documents.
