II.1.5) Short description of the contract or purchase(s): DIT Information
Services host a number of enterprise and departmental applications, each
of which has a database component which are hosted on servers which are
approaching their end of life. DIT has developed a database infrastructure
strategy which sets out to provide a production database infrastructure
which is highly available, scalable and performant.
DIT Information Services need to provide development and test database
environments for many of its applications. Providing server hardware for
these environments on an application by application is sub-optimal and
difficult to provision and maintain. DIT Information Services wish to use
server virtualisation technology to provide development and test
environments for a number of applications. Over time, production
environments may also utilise virtualisation opportunities.
We seek a partner to assist us in building the environments which will
support our application portfolio and its development over a 5 year
period. We consider that this will be a key requirement demanding a
professional and effective relationship with the successful tenderer.
This RFT is for the supply, installation, support and maintenance of a
database infrastructure (server hardware and associated kit) which will
deliver this database infrastructure strategy.
