Georgia has received a credit in the amount of US$ 7.6 million equivalent from the International Development Association toward the cost of the Agriculture Research, Extension and Training Project and intends to apply part of the proceeds of this credit for goods, works, related services and consulting services to be procured. The project is in the last phase of implementation and is expected to be completed by December 31, 2007. The Project mainly includes the development of an efficient and cost-effective agricultural knowledge system through the following components:

(i) Competitive Grant Scheme which will support adaptive research and technology dissemination at the farm level;

(ii) Agricultural research, extension and training system reform for a selected high priority research direction;

(iii) Environmental pollution control to reduce agricultural nutrient pollution of the rivers draining into the Black Sea.

Procurement of goods will include: Laboratory supplies, consumables and basic equipment.

Procurement of contracts financed by the World Bank will be conducted through the procedures as specified in the World Bank’s Guidelines: Procurement under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits January 1995 (revised January and August 1996, September 1997 and January 1999), and is open to all eligible bidders as defined in the guidelines. Consulting services will be selected in accordance with the World Bank’s Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants by World Bank Borrowers, January 1997 (revised September 1997, January 1999 and May 2002).

Specific procurement notices for contracts to be bid under the World Bank’s international competitive bidding (ICB) procedures will be announced, as they become available, in UN Development Business and at least in one national newspaper.
